The Giant Forest -

Sequoia National Park

Within the Giant Forest sequoia grove are some of the finest sequoias in the world, including the largest tree on Earth, the General Sherman Tree. Trails here lead to historic features that include a cabin built into a fallen giant, and to examples of the sequoia’s complex relationship with fire. Named in 1875 by John Muir, the forest covers over 1,800 acres. The rounded tops of mature monarch sequoias dominate the overstory of the grove, with sugar pines, incense cedars, and white firs competing for light below.
