Monticello Ecological Park
Monticello Ecological Park is approximately 28 acres of upland old-growth forest (mixed hardwoods and pine) with a spring-fed stream and wetlands. A short trail loops through the park; the portion of this trail that leads over the stream and wetlands is an elevated boardwalk.
There is no official record of tree age, but it is believed that the forest has never been cut. The understory is somewhat choked with invasives and efforts are needed to control them, but the rarity of a protected old-growth forest within city limits in rural Florida makes this park unique.
