Idler's Rest Nature Preserve

Idler’s Rest Nature Preserve is a beloved property in Latah County, Idaho. For over 100 years, individuals and families have been gathering at this ecologically unique site. Much of the Palouse region of north central Idaho is defined by agricultural fields and ponderosa pine ridges. Idler’s Rest boasts a lush cedar grove and creek. Now owned by the Palouse Land Trust (PLT) and mandated for conservation, the Preserve is protected and managed as a natural place for light recreation, community outreach, and ecological stewardship in perpetuity.

The preserve is home to four distinct plant communities: ponderosa pine/snowberry, Douglas fir/ninebark, western red cedar/mountain lover, and grand fir/mountain lover. Each plant, tree, forb, and flower species at the preserve is vital to the health of the ecosystem and many provide habitat and shelter for the animal and bird inhabitants of the area.
