Bald Head Woods Coastal Reserve
This 191- acre nature reserve is located within the central portion of Bald Head Island and is bounded by the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. The forest is dominated by live oak and laurel oak, with a thick understory consisting of American holly, yaupon, wild olive, and cat briar. Cabbage palmetto also appears throughout the forest. The Timmons Oak, a beloved live oak in the forest, is believed to be over 300 years old.
