The Ferguson Land Laboratory

Ferguson Woods is an old-growth forest that offers an inspirational remnant of Beavercreek Township’s natural heritage. The Woods is an old-growth forest, as evidenced by very large canopy trees, an abundance of large standing dead trees, large downed logs and pit-and-mound topography. Nearly all of the forests of Greene County were felled and converted to farmland in the 19th Century, and most of those that were left have been periodically harvested for their valuable timber or grazed by livestock. The Ferguson woods is an exception.
