Woodbourne Preserve
The Preserve is 630 acres of forest, wetlands, and transitional pasture lands. Nearly 150 acres of old-growth include significant Eastern hemlock, red oak, American beech, white pine, and yellow birch. Many of the hemlocks measure over 30" to 40" in diameter. The oldest trees are estimated to be over 300 years old. The largest area of old growth forest surrounds a large beaver maintained swamp.
The understory includes hobblebush, painted trillium, red trillium, Spring Beauty, hepatica, other wildflowers, American witchhazel, spicebush; and many species of fern.
