Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy
Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy (KNC) is a 231-acre protected parcel of property located on the north shore of Geneva Lake in Walworth County, WI. This land was rescued from numerous attempts to develop the property following the closure and removal of the railway in 1966. Comprised of a diverse habitat of wetlands, prairie, woodlands and two small creeks, this property was acquired by the Village of Williams Bay in 1990 to preserve it and prevent future attempts to develop the property.
While owned by the Village of Williams Bay, the property is managed by a Village Board appointed Conservation District Commission consisting of seven individuals. A conservation easement agreement was placed on this property with the Geneva Lake Conservancy in 2010 to ensure permanent protection.
Kishwauketoe includes approximately 20 acres of forest land consisting of white oak, swamp white oak, black oak, red oak, chinquapin oak, hickory, maple, black cherry, American elm, ash (white, black & green) and a wide variety of other species. An approximate 7-acre arboretum was established in this conservancy in 2000 with additional plantings continuing on a regular basis.
